HSG 248 changes and your TEAMS system

Following on from our previous update regarding the changes to HSG248 guidance, and the changes being implemented to the TEAMS system to accommodate these,

We are currently compiling updates for the Laboratory module, with regards to sample analysis and sample QC which satisfy the HSG 248 criteria. We will be adding/amending the sample analysis screen within sections – Sample preparation and Fibre observations which will include areas set out within the new guidance.

We are aware of the NAD to be 2 points also but believe further consultation is taking place.

The QC system will be reworked completely. For routine analyses a minimum overall QC check of 5% of re-analyses on new samples should be maintained (i.e. the samples analysed up to the maximum number of 20 and 40),the 20% of samples analysed in excess of the requirements are in addition to the 5%.

It is important to note, that while TEAMS will be updated to reflect and support these new requirements, they will not be added to your TEAMS system unless we receive a request to do. Additionally, should any changes need to be made to your templates to accommodate these changes, these will only be applied upon request.

We are also updating our default question bank for the 4 Stage Clearance air monitoring job. We will be in contact with clients using default question bank directly, to see if they would like to have these questions added to their systems, and details of the questions to be added are as follow;

Stage 1:

The following questions will be added, and will show on the Stage 1 section of the tablet.

  • The question ‘Contractors conducted visual?’ will be added, and will have Yes or No as selectable answer options.
  • The current title of ‘Asbestos contractor representative’ will be renamed to ‘Supervisor site representative’
  • The signature for the contractor representative (to be named the supervisor site representative) will be shown on the
  • PDF report/certificate that is generated.

All of the above questions will also show on the reports/certificates that are generated in the Stage 1 section.

Stage 2:

The following questions will be added, and will show on the Stage 2 section of the tablet.

  • Any evidence of lock down spray – answer Yes/No
  • Original floor and surface uncovered? – answer Yes/No
  • Time estimated for visual – the analyst will be able to record the time
  • Total Time duration – the analyst will be able to record the time
  • Time variance- the analyst will be able to add comments to record the reason for the difference between the estimated time to complete the visual, and the actual time taken to complete the visual inspection.
  • Stage 2 Start Time – the analyst will be able to record the time
  • Stage 2 Finish Time – the analyst will be able to record the time

All of the above questions will also show on the reports/certificates that are generated in the Stage 2 section.

Stage 3:

The following questions will be added, and will show on Stage 3, or the Air Monitoring section of the tablet, where the results of the tests are recorded.

  • Number of tests required – analyst will be able to record a number
  • Is Area Dry? – answer Yes/No
  • NPU(s) off/sealed – answer Yes/No

The Area size can currently be recorded by the analyst in the ‘Floorplan Designer’ section, where the layout of the enclosure is drawn, as well as transit routes etc. The area details will be included in the Stage 3/Air Monitoring section of the report, along with the results of the tests carried out.

  • Area size – to be pulled form Floorplan Designer tool

All of the above questions will also show on the reports/certificates that are generated in the Stage 3/results of the tests that have been carried out.

It is important to note, that while TEAMS will be updated to reflect and support these new requirements, they will not be added to your TEAMS system unless we receive a request to do. Additionally, should any changes need to be made to your templates to accommodate these changes, these will only be applied upon request.

It is worth noting that the TEAMS Air app already supports the functionality for additional photo’s to be captured at each stage on the tablet. If you require this functionality, please get in touch, and we will be happy to enable it for your consultancy, and also updated the reports/certificates to show the additional photo’s captured if required.

If your consultancy has not already started, now is the time to be looking at your templates and internal processes to ensure the incoming changes are being met, and your consultancy continues to remain compliant, before the deadline for implementation comes into effect.

If you have any queries regarding the changes in guidance, and how these affect your report templates, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
